One of the great pleasures of a holiday in France is being able to browse at the local markets. As you wander, your senses will be aroused with the perfume of herbs and spices….here you will find quality fruit and vegetables at excellent prices, also meat, bread and cheese….in fact the perfect way to begin your holiday is to visit a local Sunday market to stock up with food (remember supermarkets are often closed on a Sunday). This means you can minimise the amount of food you have to take with you. In Rennes you will find one of the largest markets in France held each Saturday, however it is likely that there will be a market every day of the week close to where you are staying. Here are 5 of the best!
1. The famous Marché des Lices in Rennes – All year round, Saturday mornings
2. The very chic market in Dinard – All year round, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays
3. The beautiful market in Questembert’s 16th-century halls – All year round, Monday mornings. The “Convivi’Halles”, on Wednesday evenings from 17:00 in the summer.
4. The seaside market in Lorient – All year round, every day from 08:00 to 13:00
5. The Saint-Renan market in Finistère – All year round, Saturday mornings
