Maison Lairoux Holiday Cottages are located just 15km from the Vendee coast in Western France. The property is comprised of two family friendly holiday cottages with a shared 12m x 7m heated swimming pool, large gardens, games room, gym and views across the wetland pastures in the valley below.
Accommodation
Le Vieux Cafe Holiday Cottage
This newly renovated cottage has 3 bedrooms and two bathrooms and sleeps up to 7/8 guests. It is perfect for large families or friends sharing. It has a private terrace with BBQ. The bedrooms are flexible and we can add an extra single bed in one of the bedrooms and make two singles into a double bed.
Living Room
In the living room there is a 50 inch flat screen Smart TV with UK and French satellite TV channels, a DVD player and a PS4 games console. There are two three seater sofas, plus a large two seater sofa that doubles up as a sofa bed. In one corner of the living room, there is a desk and a bank of USB sockets in case you need to work whilst you are away.
There is a high speed fibre Wi-Fi internet connection that can be used throughout the cottage, on the terrace and even whilst lounging by the pool.
Kitchen
The kitchen is fully equipped with a dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, ceramic hob, electric oven, along with plenty of crockery & cutlery for everyone – there is also a range of plastic plates, beakers, cutlery and bowls for toddlers and young children. The dining table can extend to seat 8/10 guests.
Leading from the kitchen is a ground floor shower room with shower, hand basin and WC. A high chair and booster seat are available for young children.
Bedrooms
Upstairs, there are three bedrooms. The large master bedroom (30m²) has a large double bed (160cm x 200cm), a single bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers and views across to the village church. A travel cot is also provided in this room for younger children.
The middle bedroom has two single beds, plus a wardrobe, bedside tables and lots of bedtime reading books for your children. These beds can be made into a large double bed if required (180cm x 190cm).
The third bedroom now has a double bed (160cm x 200cm), plus a wardrobe, small chest of drawers, desk with mirror above and bedside tables. This double bed can be split into two single beds if required.
The stairs have gates at both top and bottom for the security of your children. All bedrooms have double glazing, insulation, and functioning shutters to keep the bedrooms dark so that you can sleep in longer during summer.
Bed linen, hand, bath and tea towels are included in with the rental price, but please bring your own pool and beach towels.
There is a second shower room on the first floor with a double shower cubicle, hand basin with storage cupboard and separate toilet.
The house has radiators for the winter months and the heating costs are included in with the rental price for weekly rentals. If you are booking a long winter let, then electricity and heating will be charged according to your usage.
Outside Living
Outside there is large terrace, with a dining table and chairs for up to 8 guests. There is a Webber charcoal BBQ, with a side serving table. A new wooden pergola with shaded top has been built over the terrace, plus there is a patio lounger set with sofa & two chairs, plus a small table.
L’Ecurie Holiday Cottage
This holiday cottage is set on one level and has been modernised throughout, whilst keeping lots of original features – wooden beams and stone walls.
L’Ecurie Holiday Cottage is spacious and can easily sleep up to 5 guests, plus a baby in its two bedrooms.
The private terrace faces the gardens and overlooks the wetland valley – a very peaceful place to sit and read or watch the local birdlife visiting the bird feeders. We have a wide variety of wildlife in the gardens – from the usual sparrows and starlings, to hoopoes, storks and pheasants – and not forgetting the hedgehogs!
Ideal base for families and well-stocked for children.
We have lots of guests that return to this holiday home many times – so book early! Great location for off-season walking/cycling/nature holidays and dogs are welcome to stay too!
Living Room
The living room has a wood burner for the cooler winter months (initial logs supplied) and here you will find a 40inch flat screen Smart TV with UK & French satellite channels and a DVD player, plus plug banks with USB connections. There is a dining area in the living room, with a table for up to 6 guests.
There is a high speed fibre Wi-Fi internet connection that can be used throughout the cottage, on the terrace and even whilst lounging by the pool.
Kitchen
The kitchen is fully equipped with all home comforts, such as dishwasher, washing machine, fridge/freezer, gas hob, extractor fan, microwave & electric oven. There is a full range of crockery & cutlery, along with plastic utensils for younger children. There is also a high chair and booster seat available.
Bedrooms
The master bedroom (30m²) has fantastic views across the garden to the Wetland Valley (Marais) beyond. This bedroom has a king sized bed, a single bed and a travel cot is available for young children. The Master bedroom has a free-standing fan for the summer evenings, and the whole house is heated with electric radiators for the winter months.
The second bedroom has two single beds, a large wardrobe and chest of drawers. There is an exposed stone wall and views across the courtyard.
The bathroom has a large (160cm) shower cubicle, hand basin with cupboard and WC.
All Bed linens, hand, bath and tea towels are included with the rental price, but please bring your own pool and beach towels.
Outside Living
Outside there is a private patio terrace with table and chairs, pergola and Weber charcoal BBQ. The perfect location for watching the sun set and tasting some of the local wines.
Heated Swimming Pool
The main feature of our Holiday Cottages is the 12m x 7m heated swimming pool where you can relax in the sun or if you’re feeling energetic swim a few lengths. This area is fenced in and for younger children we also have lots of inflatables and water wings for those learning to swim. There are sun loungers and parasols for your comfort.
The pool is heated from May until the end of September each year. This is a salt based pool, rather than Chlorine, so no stinging eyes!
Garden
The garden is set on four different levels with the top level containing the large courtyard for parking (up to 5 cars), a grassy area for relaxation and a boules court for your amusement.
Beyond the swimming pool and down a few steps you’ll find our organic vegetable garden, where only the hardworking should venture! We grow lots of strawberries, tomatoes, raspberries, peppers, onions, aubergines and more. Guests are welcome to pick some fresh fruit & veggies when in season!
Beyond the vegetable garden lies the extensive lower garden where your children can run & play in safety. We leave the exterior borders of the lower garden to go a little ‘wild’ to encourage lots of wildlife (birds, bees, butterflies, hedgehogs and a friendly badger!) We have added some deckchairs and lounger seats that you can move around the garden – a perfect spot for sitting with a book and listening to the birds chirping.
We have several fruit trees – cherry, plum, mirabelle, apple, pear and walnut – so lots of fruits for your crumbles! In the evening you can watch the sun set over the Marais and listen out for the extensive range of birds that live in the gardens – including the Owls that have a nest box in one of our trees, and the Hoopoes that visit in the spring. The garden is also great for dogs – it is fenced in on all sides and large enough to run around in!
Games Room
The Games Room is one of the main features of our holiday cottages, and everyone who has visited, loves to spend time there – playing table tennis, snooker, dressing up, playing traditional board games, drawing, playing on the PS5 and Xbox 360 or watching a DVD in the TV area.
It is situated opposite the pool area and is perfect for children of all ages! Parents often leave the children to entertain themselves in the games room whilst they relax on a sun lounger on the terrace of the nearby pool or sit and read under the shady veranda outside of the games room.
Many an entertaining evening has been spent on the veranda with our guests and a glass or two of our local wines and homemade aperitifs.
Mini Gym
We also have a mini gym for those wanting to maintain their fitness routines. All guests have use of a cross trainer, a treadmill, exercise bikes, professional rowing machine and free weights and a multi-gym with weights.
Family Pets
You are welcome to bring your pet dog with you for your holiday, but we ask that you do not allow them in the bedrooms. There is a stair gate at the bottom of the stairs in Le Vieux Café to stop them going upstairs and a large cosy alcove under the stairs to put a dog bed for your dog to sleep. We have a selection of toys for your dog – balls, knotted rope, thrower. Please be aware that we have cats here that love to torment visiting dogs!
