Brittany Tourism

Four regions of Brittany

Brittany has four regions, each with it’s own distinct identity: the Côtes D’Armor to the north with red rocky beaches and attractive medieval towns; Finistère on the west coast, heavily influenced by its maritime roots; Morbihan in the south has a huge number of megaliths, and Ille et Vilaine in the east where the beautiful emerald coastline stretches  from Le Mont St.-Michel to St Briac.

Read on for our favourite reasons to take your family holidays in Brittany.

Breathtaking Beaches and Dramatic Coastlines

There’s a great new view at every twist and turn of Brittany’s dramatic shoreline, from the rocky headlands and sheltered coves of the north, to the sandy bays and tranquil estuaries of the south.   So whatever kind of coastal experience you’re looking for, you’ll find it here, with water sports facilities, walking trails and friendly resorts for all.

Family holidays in the north of Brittany mean some spectacular seascape views; climb amongst the extraordinary rock formations of the Pink Granite Coast near Perros-Guirec; it’s a beautiful area with red sand beaches and beautiful coves, perfect for children to play and explore.

Our favourites tend to be located on the south coast of Brittany, with some beautiful beaches to be found on the stretch between Concarneau and Lorient.  Try heading to Port Manech near Pont Aven, plus make time to stop at Trevignon and Raguenes.  All these are lovely sandy beaches, with some coves and rock formations, perfect for crab-catching, swimming and even snorkling.

Families can enjoy sunbathing, building sandcastles, and exploring tidal pools. The region is also popular for walking and hiking, offering over 10,000 kilometers of routes, including the famous GR34 trail.

Enchanting Villages and Rich Cultural Heritage

The region is dotted with quaint villages like Pont-Aven, known for its picturesque riverfront cottages and artistic heritage. Visitors can explore narrow streets, traditional stone cottages, and numerous art galleries, immersing themselves in the local culture.

Visit Dinan which is enclosed by nearly 3 km of ramparts and its 14th Century castle looks over the river below.

Delicious Bretton Cuisines

Brittany is renowned for its culinary delights, especially crêpes and the buttery pastry known as Kouign-amann. Families can indulge in these treats at local crêperies and patisseries, experiencing the authentic flavors of the region.

Our family favourite which is enjoyed by the whole family from the kids to the grandparents are the fabulously buttery Breton Sablé biscuits, they never last long in our family.

Family Friendly Festivals and Events

Brittany hosts a variety of festivals that celebrate its rich cultural heritage. Events like the Festival Interceltique de Lorient bringing together participants from all Celtic nations, offering families a chance to experience traditional music, dance, and crafts.

The Vielles Charrues Festival takes place every year near Carhaix, Finistère.  It is an open air music festival with an eclectic mix of music genres, with something for everyone from electro pop, folk to rock n roll.

The Festival de Cornouaille is a celebration of Celtic culture were Quimper’s historic town centre is transformed as more than 250,000 people come to see the shows, concerts and a giant parade where everyone dresses up in traditional Breton costumes.
